A Will or Testament is a legal declaration by which a person, the Testator, names one or more persons to manage his/her Estate and provides for the transfer of his/her property at death. This is usually done with a Wills Lawyer to ensure it is legally compliant. In the strictest sense, a Will” has historically been limited to real property while Testament” applies only to dispositions of personal property (thus giving rise to the popular title of the document as Last Will and Testament”), though this distinction is seldom observed today. If you die without a Will (“Intestate”), then the law will dictate who amongst your relatives receives what, which may mean relatives you do not like or have not seen for years and is why appointing a Wills Solicitor can be of great benefit.

Read the Intestacy Rules

There is a common misapprehension that a Will is not essential for Husband and Wife as a surviving Spouse will receive the whole of the deceased’s Spouse’s Estate, but this is incorrect. The surviving Spouse will in certain circumstances only receive very limited benefits and unmarried partners do not currently even benefit in this way. JBGass are able to advise clients on a solution for their specific needs. We are experienced in handling matters from the simple to the complex in an efficient and friendly manner.
